Local teen archer to compete at U.S. National Field Archery Association Indoor National championships
Lakefield's Kirsten Watson is heading to a prestigious archery competition March 31 to April 2 but she
intends to approach it like any other event.
While the 16-year-old Saugeen Shafts member is admittedly excited about going to the U.S. National Field
Archery Association Indoor National championships in Louisville, Ky., she said she planned to be herself.
It is her first such venture to the event.

Highlight of my visit to Canada
One of the highlights of my holiday visit to Canada was my visit to
Saugeen Shafts. I had lugged a new Mathews bow up from Tennessee and
was itching to shoot it. But damn the Canadian weather! I trudged
into the shop with my bow and a $100 gift certificate, freezing. I
took my place at the range, far right, wanting to kind of shoot
alone.....you know, me being a foreigner and all! I was also an
amatuer, having only held a bow for a month leading up to the holiday.
"Pretty tight group ya got there." I'd hear. "Hey, where ya from?
(Canadian accent)". Just my responses in a twangy Alabama accent seemed to entertain them. What fun.
Then I split an arrow. I didn't even know it, but someone knew that
sound and drew may attention to it. I walked down, really mad that I
had split a new Easton Flatline Surgical carbon arrow (Xmas present).
The impressed masses came to the target (sarcasm) and seemed quit
pleased at the destruction of my arrow. Then one of the
men that worked at the shop appeared with a camera. He had to explain
to me, the amatuer, how rare it is that you split an arrow. With
that, I posed for a picture, with local expert shots saying, "C'mon, smile eh."
So, for once I did. I'm the guy with all the tattoos down to my
fingers...a hillbilly from Alabama. I returned to Tennessee and it
wasn't long before I was sitting around talking about hunting with
some friends. For an hour I talked about Saugeen Shafts and how great
the staff was....how friendly the local people were...and how
everybody shared the same passions, hunting and shooting bows. thanks guys.
